The 2015 Alta Winery Sauvignon Blanc was sourced from two vineyards at the two extremes of the Napa Valley. Thirty percent of the grapes were sourced from Calistoga while the remainder was sourced from the Carneros region. The grapes were harvest on the same day and barrel fermented in a mixture of second year oak and stainless steel barrels. The Calistoga fruit imparts more mature and tropical fruit flavors, while the Carneros fruit adds more delicate and citrus like elements. The wine opens with a floral nose, which has hints of jasmine, honeysuckle, and stone fruits. The bouquet of tropical fruits gives way to lemongrass and gooseberry, quintessential Sauvignon Blanc aromas. In the mouth, there is fresh acidity which complements the ripe honeydew melon flavors, all with a steely, flinty, mineral finish. There is good length, lingering honey and thirst quenching acidity. Drink now, chilled.
